Odum Genealogy

Leonard William Odum, son of James Odum and Mary Thomas, was born on 20 Nov 1826 in Bulloch County, Georgia and died in 1905 in Volusia County, Florida at age 79.

Leonard married Sarah J. about 1846. Sarah was born in Sep 1828 in Georgia and died abpout 1900-1910 in Volusia County, Florida. Sarah is also listed as Sarah Catherine on one census. I have not been able to identify Sarah's parents.

In 1850 the couple was living in Liberty County, Georgia, with one child, Sina, then shown as 5 months old. Leonard's 13 year old brother, Henry Odum, was living with them, apparently having moved there from Bulloch County after the death of their mother in 1849. Around 1858, the family moved to the western part of Volusia County, Florida, where they remained, but Henry did not accompany them.

Leonard and Sarah had 11 children: Sina, James W., George, Leaston Emery, John Breckinridge, Georgia Ann, Laura D., Barbara E., Sarah Jane, Leonard, and Alice.1

2. James W. Odum was born in May 1851 in Georgia and died in 1903 in Volusia County, Florida at age 52.

   James married Martha Ann Clifton on 8 Dec 1870 in Volusia County, Florida. Martha was born in Feb 1850 in Georgia. They had five children: John Leonard, Chatham Brantly, Sina Isabell, James Henry, and Grover Cleveland.

   • John Leonard Odum was born about 1872 in Florida and died in 1923 in Volusia County, Florida about age 51.

     John married Ida Starling, daughter of Rolin R. Starling and Martha, on 5 Nov 1893 in Volusia County, Florida. Ida was born in Apr 1874 in Florida and died in 1919 in Volusia County, Florida at age 45.

   • Chatham Brantly Odum was born in Mar 1874 in Florida and died in 1937 in Volusia County, Florida at age 63.

     Chatham married Peoria P. about 1898. Peoria was born in May 1881 in New Jersey. Another name for Peoria was Floria.

   • Sina Isabell Odum was born in Nov 1876 in Florida.

     Sina married Charles C. Purdom on 12 Apr 1914 in Volusia County, Florida. Charles was born about 1868 in Florida.

   • James Henry Odum was born about 1878 in Florida and died before 1900.

   • Grover Cleveland Odum was born on 7 Aug 1888 in Barberville, Volusia County, Florida, died in 1950 in Volusia County, Florida at age 62, and was buried in Pinewood Cemetery, Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida.

     Grover married Grace A. Hammett, daughter of Charles Hammett and Adelaide, on 1 Mar 1911 in Volusia County, Florida. Grace was born about 1888 in Illinois, died in 1962 in Volusia County, Florida about age 74, and was buried in Pinewood Cemetery, Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida.

3. George Odum was born about 1852 in Georgia and died before 1870.

4. Leaston Emery Odum was born about 1855 in Georgia and died in 1923 in Volusia County, Florida about age 68.

   Leaston married Sarah J. Cone, daughter of William A. Cone and Francis Hagan, on 29 May 1879 in Volusia County, Florida. The marriage ended in divorce. Sarah was born on 9 Jan 1854 in Bulloch County, Georgia, died on 27 Jul 1943 in Colleton County, South Carolina at age 89, and was buried in Black Creek Baptitst Cemetery, Colleton County, South Carolina. They had six children: Leo C., William Carroll, Ethel, Leroy Joseph, Ada A., and Frederick W.

   • Leo C. Odum was born in Mar 1882 in Florida and died in 1905 in Volusia County, Florida at age 23.

   • William Carroll Odum was born on 18 Nov 1884 in Florida. Another name for William was Carroll William Odum.

   John married Florida L. about 1884. Florida was born in Apr 1867 in Florida and died in 1953 in Volusia County, Florida at age 86. Another name for Florida was Florrie. They had seven children: Stella E., Rubin, Pearl, Guy B., Thelma W., Florida B., and John A.

     Pearl married Charlie C. Flowers on 3 Aug 1921 in Volusia County, Florida. Charlie was born on 2 Nov 1884 and died on 9 Aug 1975 in Volusia County, Florida at age 90.

   • Guy B. Odum was born on 12 Sep 1894 in Florida and died on 7 Feb 1971 in Volusia County, Florida at age 76.

     Guy married Willie P. about 1925. Willie was born about 1901 in Virginia.

   • Thelma W. Odum was born in Sep 1897 in Florida.

6. Georgia Ann Odum was born about 1859 in Florida and died before 1900 in Florida.

   Georgia married Robert Calhoun Breland on 24 Dec 1876 in Volusia County, Florida. Robert was born in May 1855 in South Carolina and died in 1916 in Volusia County, Florida at age 61. They had four children: Joseph L., Ella, Birt, and Robert Calhoun.

   • Joseph L. Breland was born in Oct 1877 in Florida and died in 1938 in Volusia County, Florida at age 61.

     Joseph married Lizzie about 1923. The marriage ended in divorce. Lizzie was born about 1894 in Virginia.

   • Ella Breland was born in Apr 1880 in Florida.

     Ella married Wiley E. Smith, son of Lewis Smith and Margaret, about 1908. Wiley was born in Jan 1876 in Florida.

   Laura married James J. D. Richardson on 12 Dec 1880 in Volusia County, Florida. James died.

8. Barbara E. Odum was born in Apr 1864 in Florida.

   Barbara married Eugene A. Branch on 3 Aug 1884 in Volusia County, Florida. The marriage ended in divorce. Eugene was born in Mississippi and died in 1922 in Volusia County, Florida. They had two children: Lula and James Leonard.
